Review of Osmosis Jones

Osmosis Jones is a 2001 American live-action/animated buddy cop action comedy film directed by the Farrelly brothers and written by Marc Hyman. It’s a brilliantly entertaining and educational film that combines humor, adventure, and a clever inside look at how our bodies work. The colorful animation vividly depicts the inner workings of the body, bringing to life a cast of memorable characters.

Voice Cast

The voice cast is exceptional: Chris Rock delivers a hilarious and quick-witted performance as Osmosis "Ozzy" Jones, a daring white blood cell. Laurence Fishburne brings intensity and menace as Thrax, a deadly virus, while David Hyde Pierce adds humor and warmth as Drix, Ozzy’s loyal cold pill partner. Brandy Norwood charms as Leah Estrogen, Ozzy’s love interest and the secretary of Mayor Phlegmming. William Shatner is perfect as Mayor Phlegmming, whose arrogance and corruption add comedic flair. Ron Howard voices Tom Colonic, the dedicated campaigner promoting health for the city.

Live Action

During the live action scenes, Bill Murray is Frank DeTorre, Shane’s widowed father and Bob’s brother, in whom the animated portions of the film take place—adding a humorous and relatable touch. Molly Shannon supplies comic relief as Mrs. Boyd, Shane’s science and gym teacher, while Chris Elliott plays Bob DeTorre, Frank’s brother and Shane’s uncle.

Did you Notice

At one point in the movie, Osmosis calls Leah, by her voice actor name, Brandy.

Quotes

Some of the funniest lines include, “Me and my girl are going to the kidneys and see the Stones,” and “We will go to the hemorrhoids and get you a good lawyer.” One of the most memorable quotes is, “Have you ever had to blow dry your hair with a fart?” adding a layer of silly humor that fans love. The story is exciting, humorous, and subtly educational, teaching important lessons about health and hygiene in a fun way.
