A Delightful Animated Adventure Full of Laughs and Heart

If you’re looking for a family-friendly film that combines humor, adventure, and a dash of mischief, The Nut Job is a perfect pick! This animated gem takes viewers on a wild ride through the bustling streets of Oakton City, where a clever and slightly rebellious squirrel named Surly embarks on a nutty quest that’s as entertaining as it is heartwarming.

A Story That Cracks You Up

The plot revolves around Surly’s daring plan to raid a nut store, which quickly spirals into an action-packed adventure. What makes the story shine is its balance of comedy and teamwork. While Surly starts off as a lone wolf (or squirrel, in this case), the film beautifully illustrates the importance of friendship and community. It’s a message that resonates with audiences of all ages.

Characters You’ll Love

From Surly’s sarcastic wit to Buddy’s loyal charm, the characters are vibrant and memorable. The ensemble cast brings each personality to life, making every interaction fun and engaging. Even the mischievous raccoon and the adorable pug add layers of humor and unpredictability to the story.

Visuals and Animation

The animation is colorful and dynamic, perfectly capturing the lively energy of Oakton City. The attention to detail in the characters’ expressions and the fast-paced action sequences keeps viewers glued to the screen. It’s a visual treat that complements the film’s playful tone.

Voices

This movie has some amazing voice talents. Surly is voiced by Will Arnett, before he hit fame as the voice of Batman in the Lego Movies. Brendan Fraser as Grayson, a glory-hogging eastern gray squirrel who has a false reputation for being the "park hero." Liam Neeson as Raccoon, a raccoon and the self-proclaimed, power-hungry, deceitful con-artist who is the main antagonist. He is leader of the park who banishes Surly from the same park. Katherine Heigl as Andie, a compassionate and beautiful American red squirrel who eventually becomes Surly's love interest. Additionally, this movie has the vocal talents of Maya Rudolph, Jeff Dunham and Gabriel Iglesias.

Streaming or Where to Watch

It is currently availacble on Amazon Prime Video, Apple Tv and the Roku Channel.

Our Rating

Psycho Bob and I thoroughly enjoyed this movie. Bob, does have one complaint, and that is if they have a dog in this movie, how can they not have a cat since one of the main characters is a rat, just saying.

The Nut Job isn’t just about stealing nuts—it’s about finding your place in the world and learning that sometimes, working together is the greatest treasure of all. With its clever humor, lovable characters, and heartfelt message, this movie is a delightful escape for kids and adults alike. Such a great take on heist movies. With all of that said we give it 4.5 twitching whiskers out of 5.
